Queensland building approvals down
On a seasonally adjusted basis, total building approvals were given as falling by 6.5%, more than reversing a 5.4% rise the previous month, with the number of detached house approvals easing by 0.5%, while the more volatile multi-unit segment went down by 18.8%.Building approvals fell in May, the third fall in the five months worth of updates for 2008 according to the Housing Industry Association.

New home sales fall further
HIA’s New Home Sales Report for the month of May showed a fall of 5% in the sale of houses and units among Australia’s largest builders and developers, with detached house sales falling by 5.3% following a 0.2% decline in April and multi-unit sales falling by 2.4%, the reverse of a 2.4% rise the previous month.New home sales fell in May following a steady month in April, according to a new report that has been released by the Housing Industry Association.
